JavaScript Developer and Technical Writer
Placebase is a fast-growing, six-year old company that has developed a leading-edge hosted mapping platform called Pushpin that provides an extensive JavaScript API. We are looking to contract with a creative and experienced UI and JavaScript developer who has excellent technical writing abilities and experience in writing online documentation.
The work involves working closely with the technical team on features that have been added to our API, producing and updating online documentation, building API examples, writing a developer-focused API cookbook, and assisting in the creation of an online developer community around the Pushpin API.
This is a contract position that could lead to a part time or fulltime work.
Requirements:
- At least 3 years combined experience as a technical writer and/or JavaScript developer
- Thorough knowledge of JavaScript and HTML
- Experience in documenting APIs and software products
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical content into digestible, more easily understood text
- Deep level of engagement with online API's and familiarity with documentation styles and standards
Preferred:
- Experience working with online mapping APIs and geospatial technology generally
- Frontend UI design — HTML
- Experience in documenting JavaScript and REST API's
- Experience working in a Linux development environment (SSH, SVN, etc.)
